Usually, when venue-goers check out Lolux, they are hit with energetic riffs, a heart-pounding rhythm and bubbles (seriously). The Astoria band formed in 2022 after vocalist and guitarist Alex Coe and his longtime friend and bassist Luke Desiervo decided to search for other members. Coe met lead guitarist Evren Kaya, at The Local in Astoria and then drummer Alex Ortiz in 2023, also at The Local. The four piece has been playing shows in and around Astoria ever since.
“We got elements of metal, soul, punk and even a little pop. Our dynamics shift and bend to the whims of the song we want to create, really. We’re inspired by the screaming soul of The White Stripes, Jett and Chris Cornell, with a touch of operatic elements from Muse and The Killers. Then we add a dash of creamy softness with turns towards Radiohead, Frank Ocean and Jeff Buckley,” Coe said.
Fans can commonly find Lolux performing at local bars and venues such as Shillelagh Tavern, The Local, Mad Donkey and Alewife Brewing.
“[The Astoria music community] is entirely welcoming, warm and diverse. This community will support you. I got my start in Queens at an Astoria Music Collective Open Mic at the backend of the pandemic and now know so many people that share my same passions,” Coe said.
